Mercedes-Benz coupes have delivered a unique blend of speed and style going back to the upright 280 SE from the mid-60s. They were always two-door versions of the company's staid sedans, sharing the same mechanical bits, but in generally sexier packaging. The debut of the CLK in 1996 led to some confusion over the car's positioning since it abandoned the E-Class badge. But for 2010, Mercedes-Benz reached back into the badge bin to relaunch a real, true E-Class Coupe, ditching the CLK moniker to the digital pages of Wikipedia.

Report: Mercedes SLS AMG Marketing Campaign to Include Schumacher, iPhone App |

It's not likely to help sell a single car, but Mercedes-Benz has just kicked-off a marketing effort in Europe for the new SLS AMG exotic which will help draw attention to the brand as a whole. Included in the new campaign, Mercedes asks the question, that with an engine, a cockpit and two wings, "Is it still a car?" Some ads will even feature Mercedes' newest Formula One driver Michael Schumacher.
In addition to more traditional advertising, Mercedes has announced that the SLS AMG will be featured in a new iPhone racing application called "SLS AMG," as well as in the upcoming Gran Turismo 5 (a game that's been delayed so many times, the SLS might be a classic before we ever get a chance to play it). The SLS will even be featured on the cover of the game box.

Report: AMG Planning Rear-Drive Version of Upcoming Mercedes Small Car |

AMG has made its mark in the auto industry by building immensely powerful engines to propel large and luxurious Mercedes-Benz models to unimaginable speeds. But with Merc now looking at the lower end of the market, AMG is being forced to do so as well. AMG, however, has its own plans.
A report by Motor Trend suggests that AMG will completely re-engineer the new Mercedes small car platform, transforming it into a rear-drive platform in order to build a proper performance machine. That sounds expensive to us, but with the premium those AMG folks are likely to ask and the huge increase in sales this is likely to bring, it may just be a viable business plan.
