OK, I'm the proud new owner of a used 98 E320 4matic. What a phenomenal car; my biggest problem with it is the absolutely pathetic standard sound system! I've decided the first work I put into it will be there. If possible, I'd like to go with a nav system for my new head unit.

I've taken the car to a few local installers, but after talking to a few I get the impression they don't really know the car very well, and am nervous about letting just anyone start hacking at my new baby. (Not to mention getting price gouged.) Anyway, onto my issue:

I've heard 2 things, both that only a 1-din unit can be installed, and that a 1.5-din unit can be installed into the factory cutout without any major overhaul. Which is it?

Second, can anyone recommend any systems they've put in (or seen in operation) that I should look into?

Third, can anyone recommend any knowledgeable and trustworthy shops in the Washington, DC metropolitan area I should look into. I'm in Rockville, MD specificaly, and there are so many shops around here its impossible to tell which are serious about their work and which are just civic shops manned by highschool kids.

Thanks in advance for any info. Regards.

The first thing to do is check out www.mbenznl.com The contact Steve through that web site if you have any questions. However installing an aftermarket nav shouln't be a problem on a 98 since it doesn't have fiber optics.
