You will cause major damage to the driveline otherwise. pauly_d 03-26-2006, 09:19 AM when towing a car with an automatic transmission you must un-hook the driveline, or get the driving wheels off the ground. The problem is that when a car is towed and the driving wheels, for example, rear wheels on mercedes, are on the ground, it spins the transmission and transfer case, however without the car running it can not be properly lubricated!
