I'm lucky enough to have the little Cassette Storage drawers below the radio in my 1998 C280. Now, they are pretty nifty, but worthless to me as I have no cassette, nor anyway to record them. I know that there is a storage tray that can be placed in there, but according to the dealer, the storage trays do not fit in the 1998 model year. Is this true? If so, are there any other solutions to turn this into useable space?

I know this may sound like a dumb question, but are you sure you don't have a cassette player? I believe during those years MB "hid" the cassette player behind the radio faceplate. Just a thought 8)
The car does have a cassette player. I can't remember the last time I played a cassette. I don't even think I have any laying around. A tray or storage bin of some sort would be much more usefull than 6 little cassette drawers.

Ahhhh.....I misunderstood you. Can't help you with the requested information. One of the techs would probably know. Good luck.

I understand that it is possible to remove the cassette holders and install a storage tray from a later version of the W202. I don't know the correct part number for this but it has been reported by other owners in the past. I am considering the same upgrade. In that regard my question is how to remove the cassette holder without causing damage to either it or the wood panel around the ACC unit and radio. I need to remove the wood panel so that I can replace the hazard switch. Anyone know the best way to get the panel off without causing damage?
