Hello. I am considering the purchase of a 1988 300TE and am wondering if anyone here would give me some opinions or point me towards a 'bible' on these cars.
The car seems to have low mileage for the age, est at 160,000 since the odo stopped working at 120,000 kms. I have already looked up the info on fixing the odo.
The driver side power window does not work. Is this a common problem and is it typically a switch issue, motor issue, or regulator?
Also there is apparently a problem with the wind deflector not coming down on its own when closing the power sunroof. common problem? easy fix?
For many years I owned a late 80's sedan and wagon Audi's on which I always did my own maintenance and repairs so I am not new to working on vehicles. I am a complete DIY owner and can do anything from changing a light bulb to radiator, axleshafts, clutch, major engine work, etc.
The 300te is an auto transmission - how are they for reliability? On the Audi's, the manual trans were virtually bulletproof, but the autos were very weak. Who actually manufactures the MB transmissions and are they used in other vehicles as well?
Any info that you can provide would be very welcome.
Thanks in advance.
