Do you have Radar Detector in you car?Pweb 06-04-2002, 01:14 PM Hi There, do you have Radar Detector in you car? If so, which one do you recommend? Where did you put it in your car? Thanks! Mark08859 06-04-2002, 02:37 PM Use to have a Uniden. But in NJ, you constantly get false triggers due to the high number of alarm systems to the side of the road from other businesses. So, I stopped using it. Want to get a Valentine One detector. They've been the best for years. Pweb 06-04-2002, 04:51 PM I just checked their web site (www.valentine1.com). Pretty damn impressive detector! Kinda pricey though :) Thanks for the info! I think it's indeed - the best! Mark08859 06-05-2002, 07:55 AM I just checked their web site (www.valentine1.com). Pretty damn impressive detector! Kinda pricey though :) Thanks for the info! I think it's indeed - the best! Car and Driver just recently did another radar comparison test. Once again, the Valentine One left the others in the dust. Pricey, yes; but worth it in my opinion. Maybe I can get one for Christmas....hmmmm. Pweb 06-05-2002, 08:12 AM Yeah I think it worth the money... It makes sense to invest once and save yourself a headache and paying $$$ to insurance after getting a ticket! One thing I didn't like is the installation! It would be much easier to just plug it in into a cigarette lighter  mbsang 06-05-2002, 08:21 AM I have a Uniden one. It seems working fine. I know what you are talking about the false alarm, but once I get used, it is fine. I can determine which is false and which is not. I installed this on top of the center vent for the wind shield (triangle shape vent). I thought it would block the vent (it might now), but I never got foggy thing on my windshield. I don't want to have things up in the top of windshield at all. EZpass is enough. I run the wire to the truck thru the A pillar and door sill. Works fine. You can plug it into the lighter if you want, you don't have to hardwire it. In fact, it comes with everything you need for either method. Enjoy! Pweb 12-17-2002, 10:20 AM Does it even makes sense to get one? I used cheap ones in my other cars, and it was beeping for everything - stores, road constructions etc, so annoying. C230K 12-18-2002, 05:33 PM Use a passport and have it hard wired and installed next to the rear view mirror, a little protection always helps. txglx 03-26-2003, 08:15 AM I use a Passport 8500 mounted on the glass just above the dashboard. It has most assuredly paid for itself already, with the exception of the ticket my GF got while it was on and in the car. She couldnt hear it, she had the radio up too loud. bobclevenger 03-30-2003, 10:46 PM Nope. Don't have one. Don't want one. If I'm not speeding, what good is it? EMan 04-02-2003, 02:01 PM Got an Escort / Solo S2. Great machine! Mounted via suction cup mount braket (provided) up near the rearview mirror of my '01 E320. Works great and does not get in the way up there. Bluecord2 04-08-2003, 02:23 PM I have a Cobra 10 band with VG-2 immunity, it works great but there are always false alarms. Better a false alarm causing a reaction, thal a real alarm that is ignored. NetMatrix 04-10-2003, 06:07 AM lol if u think thats price take a look at a recent ticket... i just got gunned at 53 in a 25 and have to pay like 220 + court fees and insurance will go up bobclevenger 04-10-2003, 06:10 PM lol if u think thats price take a look at a recent ticket... i just got gunned at 53 in a 25 and have to pay like 220 + court fees and insurance will go up But my question is: "Were you doing it?" Alphaman 05-09-2003, 08:18 PM Use a passport and have it hard wired and installed next to the rear view mirror, a little protection always helps. I've a Passport 8500 too. Where did you hardwire into DC power for the unit? I've got to figure a good way to do that, so your experience would be most useful! Another question: where's the best place to mount it on the windshield? I've heard the windscreen is heavily metalized, but that MB left a gap someplace to allow for EZpass transmitters to work well. Has anyone done any experiments to find where the best signal strength is? Of course, the standard answer to that question is "as high as possible", but that's not taking into account any metal impregnated glass or possible non-metallized zones. Aaron pnsji 05-10-2003, 01:10 AM I have Valentine 1 and I love it! It saves me multiple times! I found that I could not discern any spot on the windscreen that was more transmissive than another (I'll bet that cop with the radar was wondering why I was parked down the street from him, aimed at him!) I ran my cord to the in-cabin fuse box, as I almost never leave my unit on the windshield when parked; I use my sunshade, and the detector has to come down for that to be put up. Well, unless the car's in the garage, of course, but my habits there of shutting everything down are pretty well check-list-perfect. Aaron thomas 06-02-2003, 07:58 AM I have had a radar dectector in my cars since I was 16 years old. Radar dectectors make you aware and I think make you a better driver. I have a Solo cordeless radar dectcctor . I mount mine on my sun visor fits grear on my 03 c230 coupe. I really like the new cordless models. Pweb 06-03-2003, 11:12 AM Just got my Valentine 1 today :) Looks great! Just need to figure out a way to wire it to my car... perhaps I should take it to a car audio installer? my-amg 05-18-2009, 12:35 PM The V1 is great for what it is ( Dashmount Radar ) my experience with it was bad, it is way too sensitive for me. I think people like it so much because they cant speed with it because it is always going off ( hense its sensitivity ). For my AMG I definately prefer something more stealth, I have the K40 Calibre, and let me tell you this system is awesome. It is unlike anything else, I have had it for 2 years now and in those 2 years I have not gotten a ticket. It is a little pricey but well worth the money. Mechman 63 05-19-2009, 10:22 PM Has anyone out there heard of a detector that also jams the radar signal judylee 05-21-2009, 09:21 PM rocky mountain radar company makes a laser and radar jammer for 330 dollars that you can buy from there website. realized that radar jammers are ILLEGAL to use but if you don't get caught go for it and enjoy!!!!!!! mercedezman 05-28-2009, 10:54 AM rocky mountain radar company makes a laser and radar jammer for 330 dollars that you can buy from there website. realized that radar jammers are ILLEGAL to use but if you don't get caught go for it and enjoy!!!!!!! Yes radar jamming is absolutely illegal, Rocky Moutains system does not operate as discribed he will not jam radar, and they have a horrible return policy. Jamming radar is illegal and I would not recommend it. jhodg5ck 06-09-2009, 08:46 PM There are effective laser jammers on the market that are legal.. Laser Interceptor is the best as per my friends who test these things 2X a year... Jonathan | |
