: Insurance Rates for C230 Kompressor Sport Coupe?
apich 01-29-2003, 02:19 AM Well this is my first post here so HI. Last summer I started getting into Mercedes and decided I will be buying a New C230 in 2004. I have got a couple of insurance quotes and well they are sick. $15000/year + CAN. I'm 22 and I can easily afford the car its that sick insurance that gets me. What kind of rates are you paying? I want the car bad, I'm getting tired of my Sunfire GT. Any underwriters out here? I need to find cheaper insurance so I can get the car sooner. Also has anyone bought a car from Weber Motors in Edmonton, AB? How have you found Mercedes customer service in general? Thanks

Welcome to the board, apich. I wish I could help on the insurance, but I'm in a different country and a much different age group. For what it is worth I pay about US$600 a year for liability, collision, comprehensive, uninsured motortist, ect.
susemu 01-29-2003, 05:50 PM Da**n Lynn - only $600 a year!? I am paying about $1100 a year (just went down from $1600 a year)..
kumitenidan 01-29-2003, 06:40 PM In Toronto, age 50, with $200 deductible, high mileage and the most comprehensive coverage up to $3,000,000 I'm paying about Cdn$2000 per year 8O
Da**n Lynn - only $600 a year!? I am paying about $1100 a year (just went down from $1600 a year)..
If I still live in Wyoming it would be closer to $400 a year. Liability is almost triple here.
apich 01-29-2003, 08:24 PM Oh god, do I wish I had insurance like that!! I could probably buy a Ferrari. Well with time I guess. Any single girls that want to get married and have kids say next weekend? Thats about the only hope I have in getting cheaper insurance. An underwriter would be perfect. 8)
Alex
does that say 15 THOUSAND DOLLARS???
jaysus, i'll sell you a u.s. address for half that...oh, wait: it's canadian, so it's already half. um...fine 1/4.
craniusmaximus 01-29-2003, 11:40 PM $600/year (full coverage) too here in SW MO, no accidents or tickets, old (relative to 22).
Customer service is much better than I'm use to these days, but that ain't saying much.
Remember..."We live in a service economy, and the service sucks"
NightHawk 01-30-2003, 01:11 AM Benz has been known to have the best service around. Along with, BMW, and Audi, and some of the other Euro's. They know they're stuff, (maybe not ALL of it, but they know it)
Hondas, Toyotas, have nothing on Benz Customer Service..
I have never heard anything good about BMW service. Here, many of the Toyota and Honda dealers are outstanding, and no one compares to the local Lexus dealer.
vaca22 01-30-2003, 03:06 PM ....
craniusmaximus 01-30-2003, 06:14 PM It pays to be old, sometimes.
marmelo 01-30-2003, 06:56 PM 30 something, north east- full coverage $1,000 deductible on a 2003 c230 sport coupe-cost $800/annually. advice-- call around -compare quotes -raise deductible if you have to. if you have a good driving record keep that in the fore-front when speaking to the ins. agent
good luck SHOPPING for insurance.
andy_c230 01-30-2003, 07:12 PM I'm 22 living in Toronto, Canada..insurance about $2,400/year
apich 01-31-2003, 06:09 AM I seriously need to move out of alberta then. Man insurance is stupid and if the Kyoto Accord goes through then gas prices will be the problem. I guess I'll move to a deserted island with my new benz and enough fuel to cruise around the island until I mile the car out. Anyone have good sand tires? :D . Another quick question, whats the resale on these cars going to be like? I had a dealer tell me that if I come back in 5 years knock off about $10000 off the sale price if I put it towards a new benz. Hell thats a lot better than the 99 Sunfire GT I bought for $26000 full load thats worth about maybe $10000 now! Damn domestic car market. Anyone what to buy a Sunfire limited Edition, well on my block anyway.
:P Alex
First year depreciation in the US is about the same as other cars in the same price range.
I'm 24, full-coverage, all the extras etc, good driving record: $1200/year.
canadian_steve 01-31-2003, 08:00 PM I'm in calgary, and ordered my car and got a quote first of 1220 a year.
I'm 30 married and have a perfect record if that helps.
apich 01-31-2003, 11:22 PM Hey Canadian Steve what insurance company are you dealing with? Also how long is it going to take to get your car? I was told about 4 months. Man I hope I find cheap insurance soon because I really don't want to wait for any longer. :P
Alex
canadian_steve 02-01-2003, 02:08 AM It will be here at the end of april.
I went through HDF ins in edmonton. They got me a great rate.
apich 02-01-2003, 04:35 AM Hey Canadian Steve let me know when your coming to E-town I'd love to check your car out! I'll call HDF tomorrow. Who's your agent? Got a number? Thanks. 8)
Alex
canadian_steve 02-02-2003, 01:35 AM Funny thing...I was mentioning how I got a perfect driving record yesterday.....well not any more.....today I turned onto the highway but there was construction zone (empty of course) so I was doing 110 km and I missed the NEW 70 km sign...
$209 holy crap.....lol
Oh well
apich 02-02-2003, 03:23 AM 8O Thats a gooder, did you get a mandatory court date as well? Cause if you did you could lose your license. You probably won't anyway, but I'd talk to a lawyer. Good luck.
Alex
Bobino 02-22-2003, 04:58 PM I just got my new C230 last week...
6 speeds manual, blue with sun roof, C7 (or evolution), 6 CD changer...
I live in Québec city, Canada and my insurance are 847$ CAN per year for full coverage.
I'm 44 years old and have a good driving record.
I also have a five years new car insurance in case of crash. That means that if i have a crash with my car and the damages are more important than the value of the car, the insurance company will give me a new car car. That 's good till 2008...

That's $563 American, A lot better rate that most of our younger friends in the great white north have been quoting. See being 44 does have advantages.
Bobino 02-22-2003, 07:52 PM Of course Cranius...
I'm very surprised how expensive are the insurance rates for most people...
I tought at the beginning that i was paying too much for the insurance but now i see that it's not the case...
krikzil 02-23-2003, 06:04 AM Ok, I was paying around $1000/yr for full coverage on my Mustang Convertible which was technically a sports car. I was shocked when my rates jumped to almost $1300 when I got the C230 in October. I'm in my late (very late!) 30s with a perfect driving record (no accidents or tickets ever) so I'm thinking this is too high. Or not? I've been with my insurance company for 15 years so I hate changing but I hate getting taken advantage of even more.

What year is the Mustang? Were you carrying collision coverage? What is the value differential between the vehicles?
There are other factors such as where you live, horsepower, how far you drive to work each day, and if you have multiple insurances accounts there are some discounts.
As for where you live, year’s back I moved from suburbs of NY to NJ on the Penn. border (quit rural) and my insurance went up. Why? Two reasons were given, NJ had a very accident to miles driven ratio and Trenton (which I lived over 40 from) was and I believe still has the dubious honor of being the stolen car capital of North America.
As for the Mustang Convertible are you sure that listed as a sports car or was it just HP. I once went from an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with a 350 to a 3-year newer Mustang convertible with 351 and had little change in rates. Usually two seaters are the killer on rates. Things do differ from state to state due to insurance laws. Hard to believe but there are laws that allow insurance companies to do thing than almost seem illegal.
I kept my previous car for bad weather driving and put it down as my primary vehicle for work (which since they have had the road ripped up in the town I work for almost a year now, it has been) and it cost less to insure that car than the up-charge for the C230 to be drive the 70 mile round trip per day. Go figure.
Bonus: I have kept a lot of miles off the Benz.
Downside: I'm still driving my old car to work.
Ask your agent why the extra $300/year, and if auto insurance is all you carry with them or even if not, go shopping.
But then it's only $300 a year or 0.82 a day. Way less than a daily cup of Starbuck's coffee.
gromitim 02-24-2003, 12:20 PM I'm paying about $1800/yr for insurance with my 2002 C230K, 94 Ford Ranger, and 84 MB 190D. Out of curiosity, I got a quote without my C230K and it was only $300 less. I guess I should mention that I'm 22 and have quite a few speeding tickets and one accident that I got blamed for. (Not my fault, really). Geez, looking at some of your rates, I guess mine's not all that bad.
Bobino 02-24-2003, 07:53 PM Your talking about US dollars isn't?
beats1234 04-23-2003, 03:57 AM Will someone from New Jersey get in on this? I know we have the highest rates in the universe but I didn't know this much higher! Yes, I've had 2 major accidents and tons (and tons and tons and tons) of tickets probations and classes, but my insurance is the better part of $10,000! I'm 21 and my dad pays my insurance. My brother has my old Lexus IS300 - he's 18 with a clean driving record and his insurance is something like $7000. Can't believe you all think $1000 is high.
but my insurance is the better part of $10,000!
Ouch... move to a different state
WYLDBLACKBENZ 04-23-2003, 08:33 AM Insurance is a breeze with this car! I am 19 and a female.. monthly I pay $134 (good for my age) so about $800 every six months $1600 a yr. I was comparing other cars (i.e. Celica, RSX,Mr2 Spyder & Tiburon) and my insurance would have been about $250 a month with other cars!! God luck and enjoy the car!
I'm 24 and pay the same :) $1600/year. Thinking of buying BMW as well, insurance will only be extra $10 (TEN) dollars a month :)

You must mean that adding the BMW will double your insurance plus $10. If your insurance only goes up $10 when you add another car, please tell us who the insurance company is.
suprman_derek 04-23-2003, 10:51 AM Da**n Lynn - only $600 a year!? I am paying about $1100 a year (just went down from $1600 a year)..
Quit tripping folks..this guy has liability only that means he has a wreck he gets NOTHING FOR HIS CAR!!! or hit and animal..no towing, no rental...The grass isnt that green on the side he is talking... my insurance is 1120 dollars a year and i have everything.

I have liability, medical, comprehesive, collision, car rental and travel expenses, death dismemberment and loss sight, and uninsured motorist.
Lynn, I have AMICA insurance -- they don't advertise much, no many people know about it, but the company is pretty big and I'm VERY satisfied with them. I have full coverage with other features/benefits and am paying just $1600/year for 2002 C230K. If I get BMW - same coverage, it'll be additional $700/year, if liability then just $10/month.
Those are damn good rates for adding a second car.

Same as Lynn only liability is 100K/300K/100K plus full glass only $630/year. No accidents for over 25 years and last ticket was in 1988. The grass may not be greener over here but it is cheaper. Actually the grass is grayer over here.
The grass is just a green, it's the hair that's grayer.
umbelwheat 04-24-2003, 02:05 PM I'm 18 and my insurance is $720 a year for full coverage. It doesn't hurt that the car is in my dad's name. There's always a way to get cheaper insurance.
davidlkc 04-25-2003, 08:19 PM I'm paying 1,900++ per year. Well,it's full coverage though, but I know, the price is awful.
im 18 and my insurance is running me 3600 per year, and i even have a perfect driving record...its a shame....
craniusmaximus 04-29-2003, 09:42 PM im 18 and my insurance is running me 3600 per year, and i even have a perfect driving record...its a shame....
Perfect record or little record. Fact is you are in a pool of drivers responsible for large outlays of insurance funds in claims. I have never been a fan of the insurance companies, but the data supports there rate differential. I have been paying insurance on two and sometimes three cars for over twenty-five years and have never received dollar one or even filed a claim. Now that's a record and it's a shame I have to pay at all. I paid $800 a year when I was 18, which would be $3400 in today’s dollars. You'll get your turn.
Drive carefully
Aurea11 05-01-2003, 07:57 PM I'm taking delivery of my 2003 C320 coupe in mid-May. My insurance company quoted me $978/year for full coverage compared to the $1250/year I'm currently paying on my 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT. I have no tickets but 2 recent claims. I was amazed at the lower rate considering the C320 is faster and more expensive. Perhaps the safety ratings have something to do with that.
zandrolouie 06-03-2003, 10:17 AM Comprehensive with $300/comprehensive & $500/Collision deductible = $689 annually here in Southern California.
DS_MB 06-12-2003, 01:02 AM i'm from jersey... 25, single, perfect record SO FAR... state farm has quoted me $3,600 per year with a $500 deductible (but i had high liability there) for Saab 9-3 Vector and Volvo S60 T5. Benz C-class should be in the same bracket.....
anyone got better insurance companies in jersey??
Anthjs 06-12-2003, 09:03 AM 19 with 1 at fault accident (lost all my stars cause of it) and for full time coverage (Primary driver-no scamming) $8000.00CND a year oh and like 1% tax which is nothing.
DS_MB 06-12-2003, 09:13 AM it sure sounds to me like the insurance rates in Canada are pretty bad!
im 18.... how much would my insurance be... oh man.. oh man.. :(
craniusmaximus 06-24-2003, 09:07 PM im 18.... how much would my insurance be... oh man.. oh man.. :(
18 in Orange County CA you say, get a very large jar of Vasaline and a second job. Guess $3500/year
Good Luck
