Since 1999 Mercedes-Benz no longer markets diesel cars in the US. However, such is not the case in Europe. With diesel soot emissions being reduced as a result of low sulfur fuel and advanced engine and fuel systems, diesel cars are becoming very popular in Europe. Mercedes, Porche, and BMW are just a few of the manufactures making advances with diesel automobiles. The supercharged Mercedes C230 CDI AMG diesel is one of the highest performance automobiles on the continent. Many are predicting a comeback of high tech diesel cars in the US when low sulfur diesel fuel becomes available in the next couple of years. :)

:? Porsche has no diesel in its porgram. And the diesel benz you mean is the C 30 CDI AMG. With 231 PS and 540Nm 0-100km/h 6.8s.
Not bad for a diesel. Top speed 250 km/h limited.

Every modern diesel benz is super chareged

Why do the Diesels not accelerate faster? Is the the transmission gearing or some weakness in the power plant?

I also heard that the next gen E-class will have diesel...just a rumor though.

Horsepower = acceleration. Since most diesels have low horsepower they don't accelerate as fast. Once they reach top speed they have the torque to pull any speed down the road.

Wow, that article is a great read. I've got friends that don't get it and I should be able to use it to help get the point accross that Diesels are great work horses.

I would love to have that spedster Opel here in the states; in a less radical body design.
