: What brand of tires did your C-Class come with?
chucky202 02-17-2003, 08:09 PM Just got my C200 Kompressor Avantgarde yesterday. It came with a stock Dunlop Sport SP2020 225/50R16 tires.
Questions:
1) Did any of you get Dunlops with your C-Class? If not, what tires did you car come with?
2) Are these Dunlop tires OK? I would have wanted Michelins instead.
Thanks in advance for your help.

hlea34 02-17-2003, 11:16 PM I got my C230K about 1.5 months ago and it came with Pirelli tires.
Michelin Pilot Sport tires with the C7/Evolution package.
My coupe came with 16" Michilen MXV4 Plus all seasons. I'm gonna replace with 17.5" wheels and Michilen Pilot series tires. I've driven on many different brands of tires: Pirelli, Dunlops, Continentals, Yokohama, Toyo. In my opinion, the best tires are Michilen Pilot series. They wear really fast if you drive agressively (5,000 to 7,000 miles, that's it!) but they offer the highest performance for the money. My second choice would be Yoko's (most economical, relatively high performance) If you don't drive agressively, just go for the cheapest tire you can find. :(

Huh? :? Never heard of 17.5" wheels for the MB, or any other car for that matter.
Mine came with Pirelli Rosso tyres on the 17" AMG wheels.

gromitim 02-26-2003, 01:45 PM I got the Continentals too. C7 Package. I love the look but they don't wear as well as I hoped.
MB///HRV 03-07-2003, 07:45 PM A friend of mine in Miami picked up his c230k sedan on monday. His came with Michelin's. Same car by another person in the Central US a few weeks earlier got Continental's.
How do they determine this?

Whatever is the next set of tires on the assembly line is what gets put on. More cars seam to get Michelins than Contis. No car company does business with just one tire manufacturer, unless it is for a low production model.

02C230 03-21-2003, 04:05 PM I got the same too with C7 package. (made in Germany). They had 10.500 miles on it, but it's still looks as new. :D

Benzbaby 04-12-2003, 01:52 AM Hi,
My new 2003 C230 came with Pirelli P6 M&S tires. Unless one is a rally driver performing on city streets, these tires should be ok in winter. The P6 has been around for ever. Much like the Michelin MXV4s. For deep snow, we all should have snow tires on all four wheels. But for most driving, they are not necessary with rear wheel cars where you can counter-steer. I have always driven rear wheel drive cars--including a long drive from Ontario to Florida, through Pennsylvania in a snow-storm--on Michelin MXV4s(M&S). Who had cars in the ditch and off the road generally: drivers with 4x4s ie. trucks & AWDs--overdriving their/vehicle's capabilities. A good driver knows his/her limitations.

Benzbaby 04-15-2003, 01:30 AM Hi y'all,
My Canadian car came with Pirelli P6's M&S. I wanted Michelin MXV4's but that's what I got. And, they are quiet and quite grippy.
They seem more than adequate on muddy country roads!! We don't get much snow on Vancouver Island!!

c2jones 05-24-2003, 04:08 AM Our W203 C230K Sedan came with Michelins, and we're in Fort Lauderdale. All the ones I've seen down here have the Michelins, too. Of course, there could be other brands on new C-Class cars in the area.
Interestingly, the "C Spot Drive Party" touring the nation in honor of the C-Class this year will have Continental as one of a few main sponsors. I have reserved our attendance in Miami on 6/28/2003.
Excerpt from the promo page:
"Continental Tire: Continental Tire will proudly sponsor all the tires used in the C Spot tour. The performance of the ride-and-drive vehicles and the styling of the display vehicles will be enhanced by Continental's newest performance tires.
"Continental Tire: Continental Tire is privileged to work with Mercedes-Benz to produce a unique driving experience based on design and performance. We have been partners for years and, today the Continental brand is original equipment on various M-B models including the C, S, E classes and the AMG Series."
They're actually letting us drive cars from the C-Class line-up:
"A wide range of C-Class vehicles will be available for you to drive. The selection may vary, but will likely include the C230 Kompressor, C230 Sports Sedan, C240 Sedan, C240 4-Matic, C320 Sedans, C320 Wagon, C320 4-Matic, C320 Sports Sedan, and C32 AMGs."
I have done these driving promo events before. I met professional racecar drivers and even drove with and against them in an event down here for the then new Lexus IS300 Sport Sedan. We drove the tires of several stacks of rubber that day. It was a blast. They even had sedans from other makes there as well to show the superiority of the Lexus over these other makes. Select people (including myself) were able to drive them all; one right after another against each other.
Perhaps Michelin will cooperate in other events with MB? I know they sponsor and provide their tires (McLaren/Mercedes) for Formula One motorsports.

Aurea11 05-28-2003, 08:30 AM 16" Pirelli P6000 Sport Veloce M&S. I put Pirelli P7000 Supersports on my previous car and they still had half the tread left after 28k miles of use when I sold the car. I love Pirellis - they take a good beating.
MadHippoz 05-29-2003, 12:08 PM The dealership sets my PSI back to a standard 30psi for the fronts and 32psi for the rears everytime I take it in, I generally keep the PSI higher to what its rated on the tire, which I cannot seem to remember at the moment.
