I've chanced the starter. Chanced the alternator.

I recharge the battery all the time because it goes dead after trying so hard to start it.

Sounds like it wants to start. I think sometimes it might not be getting diesel. I've replaced the fuel filter and and air filter.

So, I'm not sure if something else is draining the battery or if it's not getting fuel.

Sorry, but your post is not clear. Is the engine cranking normally? If not, then fuel system problems might not be the issue.

If it is cranking as it should, then how about compression? The compression release lever -you know, that thing that says "stop" on the injection pump- can sometimes stick in the down position. This will be the same as telling the motor to stop all the time. Make sure that the lever is up when the motor is trying to start. I know it is just one possible solution in a sea of possible problems, but you might want to check it out.

Let us know as you have more details.

Faulty pre-glow system or defective glow plug(s) is one of the most common causes for problems starting a diesel.
