I checked out a 1985 300SD today. Trere are 260k miles on the clock
and the general condition is good. Power items like windows, seats etc
work.
the engine sounds good and there was no smoke.

I am not too familar with MB diesels so maybe someone could help me on
this. I noticed that in Drive one has to really press on the
accelerator pedal to get it moving but in reverse it rolled on its
own. Is this normal.

They are asking 3000 and there are no records to speak of.

thank you.

That price sounds a little strong to me, but within a reasonable range. Regarding driving characteristics, I can't really comment without driving the car. As a gasser driver, your perception of a slow launch may simply be the difference between a naturally aspirated gasoline vehicle and a turbocharged diesel vehicle. Diesels will not "jump" with a tap of the accelerator and the turbo will lag. On the other hand, if there is an occlusion in the fuel enrichment system (ALDA), a diesel will be a dog on launch and suffer on steep grades. Inspecting, cleaning and tuning the enrichment system is a very low cost proposition.
