: Putting car up on jacks

I have recently come into possesion of a '82 300D. As with most cars that age it has a few leaks. I want to put the front up on ramps and then raise the rear up onto jackstands (unless it would be better to do it the other way). I want to be sure that nothing gets damaged along the way. Thanks for the help.

Allow me to clarify. If you were to raise the rear of the car, and allow the wheels to simply hang, would this pose any problems if it were to be that way for a weel or two? I have heard that for some vehicles it can lead to problems.

I wish I could answer you question, but I don't know the answer.

It would be easier to put the rear on the ramps, then jack the front (from the cross member) and put on stands.

Reason: If the front is on ramps, it will be difficult to get the jack to the rear jack point (differential housing) because of the angle and overhang. Look at it and you'll see what I mean.

Thank you very much. It seems so logical when you put it that way.

It may be easiest to use jack stands at all four corners.

Another option, depending on the level of access that you need, is to simply roll one side of the car up onto a curb. It is an obvious one, haha.

Good Idea! Except I live in a neighborhood without curbs> :-(
Thanks anyway!!
