: Oil Change Frequency

Since oil change is the one single most important maintenance you can do for a car, I usually double the manufacturer recommended frequency. For instance, it was recommended for my old Honda to do a oil change at every 8K KM interval. I did an oil change at every 4K KM.

I now drive a 2004 CLK-320 Coupe and I plan to keep this car for a few more years. Should I follow the same ritual or I am just wasting time and money?

Mind you that an oil change of a Honda costs $35 CAN and for the CLK costs $150 CAN.

The extra oil changes are really not needed. But, if they give you peace of mind, go ahead.

the extra oil changes are not necessary and will actually spread out the period of thime between you scheduled maintenances, as the oil quality sensors will show very good quality oil. really, your car will die of electrical malfunctions and long before it is done in by engine wear. save your money for an extended warranty.

My service interval on my c240K was set for 15000 miles for my initial service visit. This is actually the mileage stated in my owners manual. When I took it in to the dealer they reset the service interval to 10000 miles. My question is why did they change it to 10000 miles when the owners manual and the original setting was for 15000? Would you ask the dealer to set it to 15000 next time?
