I am a rather new owner of an E320CDI and need advise on a problem I have.
Is there a valve preventing the fuel puoring back from the fuel line to the tank?
When the engine not has been used for a day or so it just makes a very short run (1 - 2 sec) at a normal startattempt. After this the engine is shut off like there was no more fuel. To start, I have to crank continously for 25 -30 sec whereafter the engine starts and run normally.

Ciao!
Unfortunately I'm not a native English language speaker and I'm sorry if my words will not be the most adequates ones.
I'm not a specialist in new diesel engines but in my opinion certainly is air inside the fuel system. It's possibe to exist a non-retour valve in the fuel route, I'm not so sure.In my opinion you have to check very careful the hole fuel way for possible leaks. It could be possible also that the fuel filter not to be tighten in the best way or.........to be dirty. A possible place with fuel leaks will have some wet dust around. Even if the leak is not visible if you see some "mud" around one part it's something there! Another posibility could be a small crack of the diesel fuel hose.
So, I wish you good luck!

Thanks for the reply. Forgot to say the car is of yearmodel 00.
I will check for "oily dust" along the fuel line.

Found the problen. Small portion of diesel at the feeder pump.
Replaced the 2 O-rings at the pump and the problem is gone.
Air must have leaked in at this point so the fuel would slowly run back to the tank.
Thank's for your help
