i own a 1997 e420 and have a problem with my power seats

it goes up down front back good, it folds back but when i go to fold it back forward it goes to a certain point and no longer goes anywhere, the motor cuts off and all

is this a common problem?

is it the motor, wiring, switch? trying to isolate the problem

try re-synchronizing the seat before digging too far into the problem. move that adjustment to the end of its travel in one direction and hold the button down for 5 more seconds after it has stopped. now move it in the other direction and hold the button down at the end of its travel as well. this works 90% of the time with fore and aft problems, although i haven't heard of a lot of cases where the fold function doesn't work. if you have memory function seats there is a hall effect sensor that measures all the different positions, so it stands to reason that synchronization may be the root of your problem.
