Can anyone tell me what the happy cruising RPMs is for a 2002 C230 (coupe). I can't find this info in the manual. I guess I need the dummy shift indicator light . I know some of the Japanese cars liked to be revved high, but was not sure about this one - don't want to be too hard on the transmission. Thanks

Well, it really depends on your driving style. If you're concerned about MPG, shift between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm. If you want more power, obviously hold it in gear longer. I don't think there is any magic zone. As long as you're not in the red, you shouldn't be hurting your car.
My guess would be keep it as high a gear as possible, w/o being jerky or sluggish, and that is the easiest workload on your engine. You can always downshift if the need arises.
Just MHO.
There isn't much point in revving the engine over about 5800 rpm. There isn't much power up there.

Well it depends on your wallet (to pay the broken parts), ability(to avoid children and elderly people) and the number of points left on your driving license 8)
But 4000-5000 looks good (for me).
