hey guys, i have a (probably stupid) question - i own a 1988 E300, which i haven't used for quite some time - it got stolen recently and battery was stolen - i just recently tried to put gas into tank, but the lid to the tank was locked - ive also always, from what i can remember, opened it manually - when it was locked i could see that a little metal prong was sticking through the side which opens, making it impossible to open - is there any kill switch or button i need to press in order to open it - there is NO gas tank button that ive ever used and can't find one ANYWHERE- thanks much for any info

The locking door on your 300E is vacuum operated. If you unlock the driver's door or the trunk, the gas door should open. If not you can use the key to open the trunk and simply pull back the liner on the passenger side of the trunk, reach up above the wheel well and manually pull back the "plunger".
