I have a 95 C36 AMG and I was driving down the road about 40 when my tires locked up then then started turning again and it seemed like a tooth or something was getting stuck in the diff. After I pulled over there was smoke coming off of my exaust from the diff. Any Ideas on whats up, my guess is I blew out my diff but now I need to know where to find one.
For a new unit, try the owners of this forum. Just click on the importpartsonline.com banner ad. For used parts try German Auto Parts. http://www.mbpartsonline.com/ Several CL203 owners have purchased lower ratio diffs from them.

In the parts section I found the rear axle assemby would that be what i'm looking for, and in that case I would still need to find a case correct?
What you need depends on what was damaged. It is possible that all you need is the ring and pinion gears. If the damage is more extensive, you could need the entire assembly including a case. For a do it yourselfer, getting the entire diff assembly would be easier. Changing just the ring and pinion often requires tools and skills beyond those of the average diy-er. BTW, a member of another board was quoted five hours labor to change the diff assembley on a W203.

In the parts section of this site when I looked up the rear assembly it says fits year 1996, would the diff be any diff from 95 to 96 like making it a 5 speed by anychance, if so do you know of any other sites or places that sell the diff assembly? I'm looking to do this myself and I don't know the first place to look besides this site parts section.
Thanks
I don't know if there are any differences between the 95 and 96 diffs. You might want to look around over at www.mercedesshop.com
