So I was browsing ebay the other day, and I found someone selling the overhead trip display. They said that it's perfect for someone w/ the "Tow switch" on their overhead console (which I have) b/c the mode/reset swtich is in the same place. The only adjustment I would need to do is cut a square hole in the black plastic "thingy" currently in my overhead console.

My question is, what do I do about wiring? Does MB run all the wires regardless of options and just leave them there? If there aren't wires, is there a port on the computer or some means to get the information to the new display?

Let me know if this is an easy task or a major under-taking.

Thanks,
-Buzz

It is all VIN dependent. The wiring may or may not be there. The best way to tell would be to have a tech compare the wiring that is there to the wiring diagram for that circuit. In most cases it would not be present, but there are exceptions.

Sorry I haven't posted here in awhile, I've been away on work.

But back to my request for info regarding the overhead trip Display, is there a way I can take off the overhead console and see if there are extra wires not connected? I'd rather not waste the time and money to have a Tech open it up and tell me that there aren't wires there.

Let me know if there something I can do on my own.

Thanks,

I don't know exactly what the physical differences would be, and they can vary by year. Again, the chances are very slim that the wiring would be there. The only way to know for sure is to compare the wiring that is there with a wiring diagram.

Is there a website that would have the Wiring diagram fo rmy truck? Or does someone here have access to such a diagram that they could send me? Or perhaps even just a written description of the colors to look for would be a help.

An overhead trip display sure would be a nice feature.

Talk to your service advisor. The only place you'll find accurate wiring diagrams is on WIS (the online MB shop manuals). I believe you can pay to use the service, but if you have a good rapport with your advisor, it is likely they might do you a favor and get a copy pf it for you. Really, the chances are 99.9% that your vehicle will not be able to have that retrofitted.
