Where to buy replacement Becker 1692 radio volume control

I have a 1999 S500 with a Becker model 1692 radio. The volume control is shot (loud only). I am trying to buy a replacement volume control, Becker may call it an encoder switch. I called Becker of North America and they will repair the radio, but said they can not sell me the part. Does anyone know where else I can find just the part.

If it is the potentiometer, these can be purchased from any electrical component store. Usually just three wires to solder.

How can I tell if it is a potentiometer rather than a rotary encoder volume control?
I read that the Mercedes Becker model 1692 radio used a special rotary encoder switch for a volume control.
If it is a rotary encoder volume control where can I buy one of those to replace the one in my radio?

If you have the circuit diagram, you could tell at a glance, if not just open the radio and look at the volume control.

This site sell rotary encoders http://www.potentiometer.com/select_encoder.cfm so just try to find a match.

were you able to fix the volume control switch on yoru radio? you might wanna try to spray it with contact cleaner on the control switch with the rubber button taken out by simply pulling it towards you.
