You say it is getting fuel, how do you know this? And is it getting full fuel line pressure? Could you explain how you checked for spark and what type of spark, ie big bright, small dim? Also a little history would help, has the car been parked up for a long time? Why the new exhaust? etc, all detail helps.

yes it is getting fuel and seems to be good pressure to and i tested the spark by hooking a jumper lead to earth and othr end to spark plug and itts was good brightspark i am thinking its the cam position sensor i pulled it out yesterday and it looks like the plastic has started melting could this be bad before it died it was very hard to start and would fluctuate at idle

Cam and Crankshaft position sensor could cause this.

suggestion:94 c280 cranks, has spark, and melted sensor........

obd II code check is indicated at this point. clues can be had from testing. causes of hotter than normal. cooling system function. 02 issues. if u get a code scanner, the codes may be deciphered on a cmptr at home. has floor been getting hot? hot smell? backfire?
