My daughter's ipod was stuck between the hump and passenger seat on my 1997 SL500. I reached down and flipped it forward and it disappeared. The seat is full of motors and gears to raise, lower and adjust it.

I looked from the front back and see a plastic pan attached to the underside of the seat cushion. Other than that, there is no room for anything but mechanical parts.

Looked from the back forward and don't even see that pan. Still nothing but mechanical chair controls.

The only thing I can see is the ipod somehow flipped between the seat cushion and the pan and wound up inside the pan. I don't even know what purpose it serves.

How do I get the seat off on this car so I can look into that pan and find her ipod?

Hello everyone,

On my 99 - 4 cylinders - C230 Kompressor I found a blown fuse (fuse#38 - engine's fan) that was causing the car to run a bit hot when not moving fast and the AC to take a long time to cool the cabin. As soon as I install a new fuse the fan starts running even with the car switched off (no key in the ignition) and the coolant's temperature cool (first start in the morning). I removed the fuse overnight to prevent the battery from running down. My suspicion is that the auxiliary fan control unit is bad; but I don't know where it is in the car and how to test it before spending a couple of hundred dollars on a new one.

Any help or clues are appreciated.

I have a 2004 C240 4-matic it was acting up and our mechanic said that it had a bad 02 sensor set up the appointment to have it replaced. The car when slowing down to a stop sign etc seemed like it wanted to stall. Before I could bring it back when starting the car and started bringing up the speed it seemed to shift down and it continued to do this at low speeds. He replaced the 02, picked the car up and the down shift seemed worse. Brought it back and he unhooked the battery that the computer would reset. Picked it up again still did it no code he said it could be the trans. Brought the car to a transmission special he drove it and said not the trans but a computer problem. Now we brought it to a shop with factory/benz testing. Again no code for engine or trans, he seemed stumped and told me to drive it a couple hundred miles and bring it back to see if we can get a code. Has anyone else had a problem similar?

Also the check engine light has never come on for any of these problems or no malfunction light.
Thank you for any help!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone

I just bought a 230E w123 1983 model, what a car!
I was wondering if someone could tell me how the speed cruise control works. It would seem that once set it applies brakes when going down hill to maintain the set speed. Is this how it works? From time to time when using the speed cruise control and the car is on a level road the cruise maintains the correct speed but you feel the same sensation of the car braking. Why would this be?
Today I even had it going up a hill!!!

I just removed my fuel tank and cleaned it properly. Replaced all the rubber hoses on the bottom of it, but Im not sure if I should replace anything else before i install it back in.. Are there any fuel filters underneath the car on the metal fuel line that need to be changed. I already changed the prepump and the filter close to it. Iam doing all this because I had troubles with my benz starting a month ago and a mechanic told me its the fuel pump which will cost me a lot, so I started doing stuff by my self thinking logically that there must be a problem for fuel getting through. The car was starting really difficult i had to push the gas pedal all the way to the end and after 5 seconds it would actually start, but it will run really crappy for 7 8 seconds and then goes to normal. Sometimes it will start in the morning, but later on it won't. especially when hot. Well anyway, I need to put this tank back and my question is if I should change anything else before i do except all the rubber hoses on the bottom. And if I need to take the air out of the system before I try to start it. Thank you, i welcome all the ideas of what could be wrong, hopefully I dont have to change my fuel pump. The car has only 80k original miles.

... is what must be happening in my 1994 e320 sedan and I'd like to find and fix it.

The car runs well but has the tendency to show the 'lamp out' indicator on the instrument panel... but not all the time.

Example: In the daytime, with headlamps off, depressing the brake pedal will cause the radio panel lights to go out. Lift off brake pedal, radio panel lights appear full strength... In the evening, with headlamps on, the center console and radio panel lamps will dim and change as the brake pedal is used...

All the while , the 'lamp out' indicator will sometimes be on, sometimes off, seemingly without pattern.

Is there a wire harness that can be examined where the brake lamp indicator and the panel lights meet?

For what it's worth, I bought this car used and removed the aftermarket alarm and cd-changer the previous owner had installed without removing the wiring because I didn't feel confident that I wouldn't remove something important to the car.I wouldn't be suprized to find out that is the root of the problem...

Thanks for looking!

I'm replacing the manual seats in my 2006 SLK with electric seats i got off ebay. There are 4 new wires on the electic seat that i need to wire into my car. 2-heavy 30a wires which i assume is positive(+) and earth(-) and 2-thin wires which i have no clue!!! Does anyone know where the other two thin wires go to.

I've bench tested what i thought to be the 30a Positive and negative wires with no results, so i'm guessing the other 2 wires must be a key on signal switch or something similiar...

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I have a 1999 SLK 230. I bought it a little over three years ago and haven’t had much problems other then small things (Engine light comes on and off intermediately, driver’s side window off the track, A/C doesn’t work on passenger side). The car has almost 100,000 miles and drives well (when the car first turns on it is very slow to respond to gas pressure - takes a couple minutes to warm up/kick in). Then, 2 weeks ago the car didn’t start. No noise/sound, key turned but nothing happened (slight clicking sound though if you listen from under the hood). Battery is at a 12.7 charge I believe. I jiggled some things around under the hood, charged the battery a bit (basically did a bunch of nothing) and the car started. Today, it isn’t starting again...Read a lot of forums which talk about the K40 Relay, Starter Motor (and main power cable from battery to starter motor), starting the car in neutral, ME Control Module Flash, Software Release, MAF sensor, fuel pressure and a couple more things. Is there anyone out there with this problem, that had it fixed and it actually worked? Or any GOOD advice on which solution will work? This is a very strange problem that seems specific to this make/model. THANKS!

The fuel rack position sensor connects to control unit and so does the switch over valve. Do they interact in some fashion from the control unit? Could a defect here cause uncontrolled engine revving?
Any other ideas what could cause this problem. I am grasping at straws now.

...and I know someone has gone thru this before.

The rear passenger side power window broke when my son's hand was accidentally rolled up with it and he pulled that window down like a lumberjack swings an ax. When we made sure he was OK I attempted to roll the window up and we heard an incredible sound that sounded like a gunshot coming from inside that rear passenger door. The window then fell down slowly with no resistance and the power switch was rendered useless.

I have since taken that door apart to see what happened and found that the piece that connects the window to the 'vertical window lift track' has broken to pieces, as shown in the picture. The power motor still runs when the switch is pressed and the cable runs out and retracts, but the motor does not sound real steady and strong, rather a bit 'lurchy'. I would love to get away without an entire motor change but doubt that it's possible... Any help with guidance as how to proceed with replacing the motor (and the broken piece) or somehow getting my current motor to do the job would be nice. Or maybe do I need the whole apparatus (motor, cable, 'vertical window lift track')?

Thanks for having a look at this...
