Window Problem E240 2001 – Not Re-setting

I had an alternator problem and basically flattened my battery. Battery disconnected for charging and alternator replaced. Then BAS and ESP could not be reset by the garage and windows would go down but could only be got up by activating the window switches many time. Sometimes the window would have to be lifted while activating the switch. After a day the BAS and ESP faults cleared with no further alarms.
The window problem remains. The rear drivers window works normally, and may have always been OK. To get the other windows up it may take 40 activations of the switch. Sometimes a window will close 25 mm often only a few mm, other times no movement.
I have followed the instructions from the manual P-159 on resetting the side windows, and some slight variations on this from various blogs; but three of the windows will not close correctly.
I have not tried the sun-roof as yet. Battery voltage is fine, around 12.8V standing.
I would appreciate some advice please?

The basic reset procedure is to have the engine running with all doors trunk and hood closed, send the window to the bottom position and hold the switch down for 20 seconds, then send the window to the top then lift and hold the switch up for 20 seconds.

If this does not work then you will need test equipment to read the fault codes, and if the alternator was overcharging as opposed to undercharging there may be some module damage but the codes will reflect this.

Thanks. Will work thru this process and report back. I assume it will not matter how many times I have to push the window up-switch to get the window up?

Thanks Eric for advice on resetting the windows after the battery had been disconnected on my E240. This web help has been fantastic. The windows are now all reset, as well as the sun-roof. The sun-roof was quick and simple whereas the windows took many repeats to accomplish the resetting. Keith
