Hi guys,
I'm new to the MB world and keep hearing about the wiring harness that needs to be changes. Can someone briefly explain what it is and what it takes to change it? Thanks
The wiring harness is all of the wires that govern a particular electrical system. On the m104 powered cars the engine wiring harnesses had issues with the insulation "bio-degrading" and causing some weird behavior/intermittent electrical faults. You can just expose any wire in the harness, and if you see a bunch of small cracks, there might be a wiring harness in your near future.
There's usually a main chassis harness and an engine harness. And some misc. harnesses as well. I remember replacing an engine harness on a 140 S600. What a pain! Atleast I got paid about 45 hours to do it!
I do not envy that job. There is absolutely zero clearance anywhere in the engine bay of those m120 cars.
