Replacement of the console light bulb on ML320

How difficult is it to replace the light bulb on ML320 (1998) for the Heater/Air Conditioning, and Vent dials? It is almost impossible to do anything with it at night, unless the map light is on. Is MB Dealer the only place to purchase the bulb?

Thanks,

It's not too terrible. The trim need to come off and you should easily be able to pull the unit. The biggest challenge is not breaking the trim as it is rather cheap. I'm sure you probably can purchase the bulb elsewhere, but I'm not sure why you would want to. I can't imagine it's more that a couple bucks, and at least you're assuring yourself of no issues later on down the road. I doubt the dealer would charge you more than a half hours labor to change it for you.
