Has anyone had any problems with the timing chain or tensioners on their c230k? I had a bad engine problem which was determined to be a loose (very) intake manifold. Put new intake gaskets on and it ran great for about a day Now it starts and rattles (sounds like timing chain) which goes partially away as it warms up and still has a bad miss/lope at an idle (so bad the car will surge forward at an idle). After you floor it it feels ok but not great. It almost feels like it has jumped a tooth on the timing chain. The car only has 71k on it. Oil changed every 6k instead of 15k Any ideas?

How on earth does an intake manifold come loose? I think you would help yourself here by giving a little more history on this problem.

Its real easy. The car started running rough on start up then would smooth out. I took it in to have it looked at and you could wiggle the the intake up, down and all around. I was standing there when it was found. Anyway, that has been fixed and still had it running rough at an idle but it would smooth out as it accelerated. It developed a bad rattle and after taking the front cover off the timing chain is so loose you can walk the chain around the cam gear. I believe the hydraulic tensioner is bad and caused it to jump time. Also the timing chain isnt very robust (reminds me more of a bicycle chain). Has anyone had any trouble with theirs? Also if you have what tool do you use to put the timing chain masterlink on with...?? This car has never been abused, drove hard or mistreated. It is my wifes car and she putts in it. Oil is changed every 7k with mobil 0w-40 Thanks

You can rule out a mechanic trying to put one over on me. My cousin is the tech working on it and is the one who found the problems and isnt charging a penny of labor to fix it

That is very kind of him, he should know all about the tools used to change the chain, how to do the timing and replace the tensioner. This is most certainly not a common problem. But if he has problems with this let me know and I will try to help.

I dont think the intake manifold is a frequent problem (just my luck) but I know now these engines are prone to timing chain problems just hoping now that we dont have valve problems to go along with everything else! Thanks for listening I'll let you know how everything goes.
