1988 420 sel idle drops

when I take foot off accelerator (like to make a turn, or stop) the idle drops almost to stall, and the chk engine light comes on. Then immediately it returns to normal but not after bouncing higher. In other words, the car lurches forward when I go to stop. It can cause a small problem for the 2000 lb Hyundai in front of me!

Any ideas ?

First of all check the system for vacuum leaks especially around the intake manifold.
