I want to install an exhaust system in my c240 but I am low on cash. I know some one who will be willing to remove one of my catalytic converters or a resonator, will this give me a deeper tone? Has anyone done this?
It is likely that you will lose a bit of power if the resonator is removed. It is in there for a reason. The Mercedes exhaust systems are quite efficient in their stock form. If the sound is the only thing you're after, you might notice a tiny bit more growl without it.

The 2002 C7 equipped coupes don't have resonators. Having driven C7 and non-C7 cars, there is no noticable difference in power. The cat and muffler should supply adequate back pressure in the exhaust system.
Don't remove the Cats on your car unless you have cat simulator.
If you remove the catalisor the MB Computer will think that your car has a trouble with the oxygen sensors. It will turn the check engine light on and will run your car rich (more fuel). Running rich on a Supercharged car is very bad. You can kill your engine in a few thousand miles.
I have done a lof of tests on Dodge Vipers with and without cats:
- On a Viper 30% of engine noise is cut by the cats
- On a Viper horse power gain is 20hprw over 480 hprw (4%)
- On a Viper we loose lower end torque when removing cats
- On a Viper majors gain is regarding heat. Cockpit temperature drops by 20F !!!!
In addition removing cats can get you in trouble with Police ...
Unless you are a heavy racer don't remove your cats.
