Problem with idle

Application: 1991 Mercedes Benz 350SDL>W126>OM603 with 135,000 miles on the odometer.
The issue: Occasionally the idle drops from 750 rpm to an unknown rpm, at that time the dash board tachometer stops working the engine runs and sounds like it's running on 5 cylinders. When the accelerator is applied the engine run smoothly. Sometimes the problem then disappears.
Do I need to purchase a "idle Control Unit/module" or what else should I look at?
Thank you

problem solved... maybe?

I jostled some wires on the computer and everything seems to be working correctly for the moment.
