1981 300D oil question...

I recently purchased an '81 300D and it didn't come with an owners manual. I just wanted to know what type of oil I should use - just your run of the mill 10w-30 or 5w-30? Forgive me if this is a dumb question, I am totally new to diesel and she's in desperate need of an oil change, so I figured asking wouldn't hurt. Thanks in advance!

The three most common conventional oils used for diesel engines seems to be Chevron Delo 400 15W-40, Shell Rotella T or Mobil Delvac 15W-40. Whatever oil you choose, be absolutely sure to change it every 3K. Oil is cheap.

Mercedes Approved Oils

More information than you could possibly need is at:

I'm currently running the Mobil-1 15W50 in the Diesel and Mobil-1 0W40 in the E320.
