Glow Plug Light Out 1983 300D

I need some help trouble shooting this problem.

I unplugging the 5 pin connector from the control relay and ohmed the glow plugs from the connector through the block. I got between 0.4 and 0.5 ohms on all glow plugs.

I unplugged the 4 in connectoer and checked voltage on pin 1 on the 4 pin connector and see 12 volts.

The 80 amp fuse is in good shape and it measures 12.25 volts.

I've checked the voltage at the glow plugs, I see no voltage when the key is turned to the glow light posistion.

I do not hear the conrol relay energize.

If I unplug both the 4 pin and 6 pin connectors, I do see 11.5 volts on the 5 pins of the 6 pin header. If I reconnect the 6 pin connector the voltage drops to zero.

So I suspect that the control relay is bad. Any way to confirm? Or is there something else I should be looking at?

Sounds like a bad relay to me. Try switching with a know good relay to find out. I know, not the cheapest way to find out, but may you have a friend you can borrow one from?

I fixed it

I bought a new pre-glow relay and that fixed the problem.

I also replaced the glow plugs at the same time.
