Does anyone have any mileage feedback on the 190D?

Thanks,

My understanding is that 35mpg was easily done in the 190D. There was also a turbo model which I am curious about its other performance aspects.

\'87 Mer-B 300D (220,000 miles) (sold)
\'93 Mer-B 300D (173,000 miles) (sold)
\'87 Porsche 928 (101,000 miles)
\'98 Dodge Ram quad-cab (250,000 miles)
\'2001 CLK430 Cabrio (50,000 miles)

Past cars: 1969 mercedes 250, 1981 300D, 1972 220D

Purchased a '87 300SDL several months ago and love it. The car had 292k on it when I first got it but the condition of the car was/is great. No one can believe that it has that many miles. I've put roughly 6000 miles on the car and have only changed oil and filters and brake pads. I do think that the head has been replaced at some point and I'll check the part number on it soon to make sure. The car averages about 30 mpg. Other than that, and maybe a slight glow plug problem, everything is working fine. I really can't imagine the car looking or performing much different than when it was brand new -- and that is saying something about a car with nearly 300,000 miles ! I drive it on long trips without a second thought and my long-legged son and his friends love the roomy back seat.

I am 6'5" tall and fit very nicely in the drivers seat, and for that matter this is the only car that I've been in that I can actually ride in the rear seat in comfort.

I like it well enough that when/if it dies, I will seek another.

I'm so amazed that a big car like the 300 SDL can get 30 mpg! If I didn't need a smaller car, since I street park in San Francisco, I'd love to have one. It seems like those models really age well and run forever!

Any 190D (2.2 and 2.5) owners have any info?

Richard

'82 300 SD

we have 2 1982 300 SD's, 1 has 278,500 miles and the other has 374,200 miles on it. i did a partial tear down on the 374,200 mile car 2 mo. ago and was amazed that the wear on even the cam was absolutely minimal. i put a new timing chain for good measure and put it back together. the only other problems in the recent past was a glow plug and a rear power window, which were easy fixes.
