making noise on "D mode"

I have a 2001 ML320, when ever the car is in a drive mode i hear some kind of noise from the engine. but if i put the car on neutral or park mode...i dont hear any noise. need help!!!!

like a "chopper" sound...sometimes i hear it...sometimes i dont. do u know why?

With noises, unless it is a very common issue, it is very difficult to form a proper diagnosis without at least hearing it. The best thing to do would be to have your local MB facility listen and tell you if it a normal noise or not. Another option might be posting a sound clip, but that seems a little extreme. You may have a leak somewhere in your exhaust (although not too likely) or a catalyst may have become loose inside, although this is audible 99% of the time at idle.

whenever im in the "D mode" and steping on the break, i sometimes turn my steering wheel to the left , right or play with it.... the noise is gone or noise is not that loud as usual...and then it will come back the next day or after two days....my question is why does it make noise whenever im in the d mode only....but if i put it on Nuetral or Park...i dont hear anything...

When you're in D there is a load on the engine and drivetrain which can account for all sorts of differences in the way things sound. Certain issues may not exist until there is a load.

it seems like these past few days...i dont hear that loud noise, I can still hear it but not that loud...is that normal? should i ignore it?

I unfortunately don't know what the noise is without hearing it, so I can't tell you if it's normal or not. If there aren't any drivability issues associated with that particular noise, I wouldn't worry too much. if it becomes very loud or starts to affect the way the vehicle drives, I would definately seek the opinion of a professional that can look at the vehicle.
