help: ml320. stalls...no start.... thousands replaced

i have a 98 ml320. heres the situation. car starts fine....runs for about 10 minute.... as i idle. it stallls....wont start again. i have to wait about 30 minute for it to cool down a bit. then it starts again,

so far.
dealer replaced.
fuel pump, maf sensor, starter relay, ignition switch

what have i found out.
check engine light comes on,
has 2 code.
fuel trim malfunction bank 1
fuel trim malfunction bank 2

looked at long term fuel trim. + 20%

i was told the fuel filter could cause it also.

but my biggest question is, how come everytime i wait for 30 minutes, it would start again,.
btw, i thk its fuel problem..
when it wont start, if i spray starter fluid in the intake it would want to start, until i stop spraying it,

i havent been able to check fuel pressure or injector yet. any helkp would be appreciated. thanks you very much,

so far, i have spent over $2000

Sorry to hear that you have spend so much so far but now you have to replace MAS (Mas Airflow Sensor). It sits between Air Filter and Air Manifold. It takes about 5 minutes to replace it. The part is kind of expensive ($200 +). I had the same problem (the same OBDII code message) and it was it. After replacing it disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to reset the computer. Good luck.

Don't just start throwing parts at it. That gets spendy. He already replaced the mass air flow sensor. So, when it doesn't start, it sounds to me like it cranks over but does not fire. Has the dealer been able to duplicate the problem? And if it cranks but doesn't start, why would they replace the starter relay? This dealership is kinda sounding shady. I think they slapped one of their noobies on it and went to town.

I've never seen mixture adaptions preventing an engine from starting. Usually it just causes it to run rough or lack power.

My initial thought as I was reading it was the crankshaft position sensor. But if they said it will want to start when they spray starting fluid in the intake, I started second guessing myself. A bad crank position sensor would cause the ignition to shutoff, but it will also shut off the fuel pump if there's no signal.

Sounds like a classic case of a bad air mass meter to me.
