The story of how I found my '71 280se

I just turned over a check and took proud ownership of my second Mercedes, won at a sealed bid auction at a price that's hard to believe. It's in decent shape, unknown running condition, light blue color seems to be original.

Classic story...you know, that car parked around back of one of the buildings on the college campus that I sometimes wondered what would ever become of. Time passed and I didn't really even notice it anymore, except that it never moved...it's always over there in the same place over on that side of the park.

More than a dozen years later my career has sent me from one school to another and suddenly lands me smack dab in the building that casts it's shadow over the spot where the car is parked...indeed, my very office windows overlook the car sitting three floors below.

The rumor is that the administration wants the car *gone*. Questions were asked, wheels started turning, and six months later I got the call...I had bid $5 more than my nearest competitor and could pick up my car whenever I want.

It's still sitting down there where I can keep my eye on it for a few more days, while I formulate a plan to bring it back to life.

Great story! When you get a chance, how about posting some photos. If the car has been setting for a long time you will need to change all the fluids and inspect everything. Even the tires may have a problem with dry rot. We look forward to you keeping us posted on the project. Preserving this classic Mercedes-Benz should be a fun and worthwhile project. 8)
