1993 300CE

My boss has a 93 300CE in prestine condition. I have been after him to sell it to me for awhile now. What is a fair price to pay for one? I have checked it over and can't find anything wrong with it at all. I have never owned a MB and not sure what to expect due to their pricetags. I assume they hold their value more than an average vehicle. He agreed to let me drive it for a few days and make a decision(hoping to get it tomorrow). I will only have to give him like 100/wk for it.. From what i understand he paid 8,000 for it and sunk 6k into it.

The values on these cars are all over the place. Have it inspected by an MB dealer. Request one of the old timers that worked on these cars when they were new. There are a lot of pristine looking older cars out there that I could write a $6K estimate on in a matter of minutes with it up on the hoist. Maintenance records from new also add tremendously to the value of the car. Look at kbb.com to get an idea, obviously it is a low production vehicle and a perfect example would definately command over what blue book states. This is a very hard car to set a value on. A perfect, low mileage car to a collector could be worth considerably more than fair market value. A daily driven, rough around the edges model could be worth only a couple thousand. lots of variables to consider. I'd ask the service consultant's honest opinion after the inspection has been performed.

First, how many miles are on the car? Second, what did he spend $6k on? I sold my rust-free 92 CE for $6k and it had 155,000mi. I did have to replace the head gasket, but the A/C evaporator was fine.

Cheers,
Steve
