C-240 proof the oil was actually change.

Can anyone tell me how I can tell if the oil was actually changed..? I have decided to take my 2002 C-240 for servicing at a local import mechanic instead of the dealership. I do not know where the oil filter is to see if a new one is infact installed so I can tell if the oil was actually changed during the service. With no dipstick to look at the oil how can I tell. I have no reason to suspect the mechanic I just want assurance it was changed. Thank you

There's only two ways I can think of. Either pulling out the oil filter cartridge and seeing if a new filter is installed. You'd simply need the proper filter wrench to do so. It's right in the top front part of your engine on the left side (right side looking at it). You should be able to pop it in and out without any spillage. Or maybe locate a dipstick from another vehicle that's long enough and narrow enough to fit in your dipstick tube and take a sample of the oil that way.

Proof of oil change

THank you zewerr, I will try the dipstick idea. Is it the plug at the rear that looks like it should be a dipstick hole but just has a plug in it. I was told once that was the transmission oil plug but I suspected it could be to the engine oil.

Your probably looking at the engine oil dipstick tube. It'll have the cap that's easily removable. The transmission dipstick tube is located below that. You usually have to remove the air cleaner housing to see it. It'll have a cap with a break away lock on it.
