FastAccess DSL Wireless Network Issue

OK, here is the situation. I have BellSouth FastAccess DSL and want to set up a wireless network so that two PCs and a laptop can access the internet from time to time. Seems simple enough but here is the wrinkle, my connection from BellSouth is via fiber optic line which does not require a modem. The PC is connected directly to the DSL line into the house using an Ethernet cable. The absence of a modem seems to cause problems with a wireless network. BellSouth is of no help since they would rather sell me (for a monthly fee) their network equipment. I have tried using a wireless router, which worked for a time, but would loose the IP address dropping the connection. Anyone have a solution other than paying BellSouth more money?

There was a similar question on MBshop I'm not sure if it was you or not, but you have a few options.

1. install a second network card.

2. Upgrade the firmware on your router, check the white papers on your router as well Belkins are notorious for not picking up new IP's. I've heard no complaints about Linksys and the online customer support(white papers) is superior but the live person support is from India and is nothing to write home about.

I was looking into wireless for because my kid's iBook (which she just bought from saved babysitting money) comes with wirless installed. Well, she cranked it up and it found a neighbor's unguarded network when she sits in the front room. When she's back in the kitchen she picks-up a different neighbor's network. Fortunately, she's not a malicious computer person.

People, if you go wireless, don't have unprotected access lest you get admit a computer rapist who may enjoy your private porno collection and financial information or leave you a little computer STD.
