I've never owned an MB. I have, however, taken a number of taxi rides in eastern europe, and seemingly every one was a diesel MB...

In any case, i have an opportunity to purchase a 1970 220 diesel in good condition.

Other than the regular "it's a used car" discussion, is there anything specific to that engine/trans to look for?

Is there a good place for information regarding this vintage of car?

The intent would be for a daily commuter. Though the age of the vehicle is a bit scarry, the condition is very good, and diesel is the way to go.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the board! They are good solid cars, but there is not a strong following for them.

Also beware of rust. Usual spots are the lower rear quarter panels, around the wheel well lips, and the floor pans just behind the front wheel wells. Don't be afraid to lift the carpet and pads to inspect the floors, they just drop in.
