Hi, I have a 1975 MB 240D and I was driving to work and then all of sudden the car started to loose power like I was running out of fuel, I tried to jump start it but it didn't work so I towed it home and changed the starter and solenoid and battery cables and put in a brand new battery, but still nothing. It sounds like a "clunk" when I try to start it. I have pulled the vavle covers off and pulled all the injectors out and noticed that all pistons where at the top, shouldn't two of them be in the down position and if all of them are at top, what would cause this? I did notice that the wire going to the top of the thermostat that clips on was broken off and just the clip was on top of it and that I had to add two quarts when it died. The car was in poor shape when I got it but drove great for one year but I haven't changed the fuel filters Any ideas would be greatly appreciated since I'm fairly new to diesels.

Thanks :x

If all the pistons are at the top, something has gone drasticaly wrong.

My guess would be that the crankshaft has snapped.

Will the egine turn over with a socket on the crankshaft pulley?
