We have a 1975 Mercedes 300D. It was running great, however, the valve gasket was leaking. So we had that changed. The weird thing was, right afterwards it started having issues shifting. Our friend is a mechanic that works on Mercedes. He had actually just rebuilt one for his son. Anyway, he took the car and found a problem with the linkage. He's fixed it, but the car is still not running the way it did a few days ago. You have to let off the gas to get it to shift and it doesn't have as much power. It also makes much more engine vibration/noise.

Any thoughts? Could some of the power issues be caused by changing the valve gasket? It's so weird that 3 days ago it was running great and all of a sudden it's having a bunch of issues.

I think the linkage is still not right. It is unlikely that the valve cover caused this issue BUT the linkage is attached to the cover and had to be removed and replaced, It also goes down the right side of the engine and back to the transmission and that might be detached.
