I am searching for a shop manual that will allow me to trouble-shoot my soft top control problem. When I move the switch to lower the top, all I get is the blinking light in the switch. The SL has very low mileage and is in excellent condition. I am an experienced MB do it yourself fixer upper as well as an electrical engineer.

If I can locate a schematic, sequence of operation, and limit switch location chart I am confident I can isolate the problem. I do not want to just replace the $1,100.00 control unit until I have eliminated all other devices.

I am also interested in any and all technical tips and known problems associated with the 1991 300SL since I plan to keep the car in operation for many more years.

i have a 1991 300sl also and one day the top was down and wouldnt come back up so my mechanic found out that the resistor in the speedometer cluster went bad and what that does is it will not allow you to raise or lower the top and the light would just blink so i sent it to a repair shop in florida and in 3 days it came back to me with a lifetime guarantee and i put it in and voila the top goes up and down with no problem its fixed
