My '94 E420 has just been diagnosed with a leak in the front seal of the A/C compressor. The shop said I need to replace the compressor and some other parts to fix this problem, to the tune of upwards of $1,500 (using a factory rebuilt compressor). We don't know how bad the leak is, so I decided to evacuate and replace the refrigerant to see how long it will last. Can anyone tell me if it is possible just to replace the seal on the cmpressor without all the other expensive parts, or if there is a cheaper fix for this problem? Thanks.
