Has anyone attempted to recharge their air conditioning unit? I'd like to do it myself and save the $140.00 that Pep Boys and Jiffy Lube ant to charge, but even my Haynes manual tells me to go to the dealer on this one.

Hmmmmmmmmm..........never have had that problem. What I do know is the system is somewhat delicate and needs to be treated accordingly. Please let us know. Thanks.

It's really not any more difficult than most modern climate control systems. Conventional wisdom should apply. If you are not experienced in these types of repairs I wouldn't recommend learning on your MB. I would also not trust Pep Boys or similar shops to work on your car for anything. To many expensive components in the system. Use MB refrigerant oil and make sure you add an approved ultraviolet dye to the system. If it is discharged, something is leaking and this will be the only way to diagnose it.

Thanks for the tip. I've recharged A/C systems before, just never on a Benz. Usually the ports are clearly marked, but I just can't seem to find them on this car. If you could point me in the proper direction, I'm sure I'd be able to handle the rest, unless there is some other wierd thing the MB people have thrown in to frustrate the home mechanic...

Sheesh, where have I been? I believe the high side fitting is under a little cover just in front of the radiator. The low side fitting should be on the driver's side of the engine compartment (I THINK! disclaimer: taken all from memory).

I looked for the low side so I could juice it up, and I didn't see it over on the driver's side. Care for a second try?
