Remove the red cover from the top of the valve cover. Now remove the coils. Now remove the plugs. Now replace the plugs with new, properly gapped plugs from your local MB dealership (this +4 crap is just not gonna cut it, trust me). Make sure you do not over-tighten or cross thread the plugs or you will be very sorry. To change the air filter, undo the clips on the air filter housing pull it up and remove the filter. Install in reverse order.

plugs -anti-seize

Yes I changed mine easily on my 1998 C230 as stated . I also placed a small bit of never seize about the volume of a match head on the mid point of the new plug threads . Though never seen this problem on a Mercedes I have pulled the plugs from other aluminum head cars with extended wear plugs and had some of the thread material from the head come out with a plug .
