Car was at sea in transit for 10 weeks with both batteries disconnected.

car is mint condition, 20,000 miles only.

The error message that came up is ‘electric consumers offline’ and a pic of a battery also on the left display.

I have driven the car all day. It seems to have not improved. In fact its got worse. I'm getting no alternator warning messages. Later the display went red and said ‘visit workshop’, with a red battery also.

I have done the following:

1. Measured both batteries with a meter, both showed 12 volts which is ok? Terminals are tight.
2. Disconnected and then reconnected both front and back batteries at the terminals. No difference, same error message.
3. started car, measured voltage coming into both batteries, one was 13 volts, other 14 volts. That I assume is ok to?
4. charged both batteries overnight.

The following symptoms have shown:

warning messages above shown. Car has been driven all day, no improvement.
this evening, music controller showed message on screen ‘ not enough voltage to continue radio’ I switched it off.
interior lights do not come on when you open doors. Reading lights do not come on under rear view mirror. (they did come on once last night but went out again soon after)
windows do not always locate properly when door closed, this I assume is as they require power?
roof will not drop, even after locating rear cover on both sides in trunk, putting on parking brake and engaging park on gearbox.
I need to start the car by turning the key, keyless go start/stop button does not seem to work.
remote open and locks doors on and of, not all the time.

latest:

trunk battery showed low on battery charger. after 5 hours charge display improved. on 6 hours charger showed it had got worse again.

Do you agree that this is a dead battery in the rear? however if i fit new battery do i also need to reboot ecu electronics? both batteries are merc spec, remember car was in sea transit 10 weeks. car drives well, starts first time.

Thanks

Matt.

Matt, it does seem that rear battery is suspect. To be sure just drive into a specialised centre that sell batteries and ask them to perform a load discharge test to verify the battery.

one more to redliner, do you think the ecu will need rebooting or should it be ok with a new battery
It should not need any further attention.
With the earlier R129's the only thing we have to do is a steering lock to lock and put the windows up and down to re-sync everything but I'm not sure if that applies to the R230.
If there are any R230 owners out there please feel free to comment.
