My wife has a 2007 CLK350. Occasionally it will not shift above 3rd gear. When I try the "manual" shift the dash indicates it is shifting up, even all the way to 6th. However, the trans is not upshifting at all. So far, if you stop the car and turn it off, then restart it is fixed. At least for a while.

Ideas?? Thx

When you switch the ignition off and on again it is clearing a soft fault code and thus taking the car out of "Limp Mode" so it drives normal again. But as soon as the fault code reappears the car will return to Limp Mode.

Your only option is to have the fault codes read whilst it is in limp mode and do not turn the car off until you know the codes.

The code will tell us which component is causing the problem, my guess is the electronics plate inside the transmission.

The car is going into limp mode. It may not even be transmission related. You will have to get codes scan to start with. Post the codes when you have them
