i get about 26 per gallon nominally with low grade gas. I've gotten as hi as 31 mpg for a 2 and a half hour trip on the highway. I avoid using the shifter if I'm watching my wallet.

the only time you'd use premium or middle grade is if you have a higher compression ratio. Vehicles with higher compression ratios create more pressure around the piston rings. Higher pressure means higher temperature. If you use low grade gasoline in this situation it will ignight at a lower temperature (flame temperature i think they call it). This creates different pressure waves banging into each other resulting in knocking, which is bad for the pistons; you lose power this way too. Thus, if you don't have a high compression ratio, you're wasting your money if you buy anything other than low grade.
