Huge update:

OK. Car is not returning to the 2nd workshop where up until a week ago or so it was! I have just today spoken with the actual head office suppliers here of the LPG set up I am running, Gas Research, who in turn have put me onto their preferred fitter/specialists who's shop is about an hr & a half from me (The last shop used to be their retailer etc haha ) Anyway, Top guy who is both very knowledgeable & helpful, straight up front! Exactly what I have been looking for for 1 1/2 bloomin years! Remember I am customising a Merc on LPG & live in Australia So, cutting through the bullshat.....near impossible

OK! Here's some facts baby! When using LPG via a mixer as a fuel in a boosted application like mine, in order to ensure flow rate meets boost, you must sort out the LPG delivery properly! Sounds easy? Yeah right.......

First! The tank can have restrictions present, such as narrow lock-off valves/power valves etc, even inside tank as well This can straight away be a bottleneck restricting LPG flow to converters. Get this wrong & doesn't matter whether you have 6 friggin lines to the carb, 10 converters & 5 carbs. It will be restricted! Then, LPG flows towards converters where it is converted from liquid form to vapour where it then enters mixer (carb) then flows through manifold & then obviously to combustion chambers.

So, I will update this later but have spent hrs & hrs today (like I have the time ) researching & talking with guys to get it all right before I go charging @ bolting stuff on everywhere. I have ordered the 2 new B2 LPG converters that will supply vapour to mixer. I am sending my old mixer to shop to have it looked over & prolly will get a bigger new one or, bore out venturi to allow more flow to engine.

I am also confirming invoice for parts from Scandinavia today before officially ordering & paying for them so fabrication can begin.

I have stripped interior of car ready for sound system install too. Damn wires run everywhere on these cars. Down both sides of floor I want to run RCA leads separate to power leads obviously but even the elect switched that run under console between front seats cause me a problem. I should really run speaker wires away from RCA too. Bloomin wires

I'm also sorting where to fit both converters. They really should be mounted horizontal due to mixing of the B2 brand converters. Prolly on left guard of engine bay, one atop the other? I want it neat but this will make it difficult to hook lines/hoses up. Having them side by side in parallel positions will be easier to hook up lines but take up alot of space.

Anyway, will update when I sort it out

oh.....& you don't need to run twin LPG lines from tank to the converters either. 1 8mm line will feed 500-600hp! That saves me some severe trouble :eek:

EDIT: well you just gotta luv PayPal huh......6 months it will take them to lift limit imposed on engineers' OS account & after heaps of paperwork! So, now I have to do several bank transfers which I was trying to avoid :mad: Now he has to return my money into my PayPal account. Better not be charged for this damn it...........nothing is ever simple is it :rolleyes:

Sound system Update:

Have decided against using the fibreglass bucket enclosure for subs in boot. Cannot read where this design would work? Kinda like a basspass enclosure but it cannot be sealed properly so, doubt it works well. Just means I have to seal the sub boxes they sit in now.

The 2 rear parcel shelf vents can act to let some of the subwoofer bass sound into cab. I will prolly install rear 6 1/2" coaxial woofers over against rear screen on the parcel shelf.

Have installed head unit. Wrapped double-sided insulation around all 3 RCA cables due to the electrics put round everywhere. Seems to be a few burnt out wires like, auto door release wires? Wires that run through rubber grommet in floor out to brakes (I guess), they've been cut. Annoying but not critical

Not alot of choices for decent front 6 1/2" coaxial woofer install in these cars is there. Kickpanel is out of the question. Not cutting into that structure plus, too close to wiring that runs up into dash on drivers side. Dash well, obviously out too. Not cutting into that no way! I've pretty well decided on the front door trims just below door release handle. Just have to sort out some kinda enclosure? More rootin round Fitted here, @ least there's plenty of leg room & sound won't be muffled.

Will be using custom Sony tweeter covers for both front & rears. Rear ones sit over rear pillar interior cover & fronts will sit in a custom dual tweeter enclosure that sits behind rear vision mirror, kinda toward back. See pics:

Hopefully have the custom boot lining fitted out today. If I get all other stuff I need doing outta the way lol.

Now, twin converters have arrived but won't be getting them sent to me until the mixer venturi is enlarged. It currently is a 325 cfm & will be bored out to a 400. Been advised not to go any bigger & if I recall, bigger is not always better with LPG. You have to keep it to a sensible size to flow the LPG efficiently. Jetting can be bigger though I'm pretty sure?

I have sorted the converter bracket out but don't wanna order hoseds etc til' I fit converters & see what joiners I'll use. No hurry really as I wait for the fabricated parts from OS so, really just planning it all @ present.

Sound system is done & so hopefully boot will be completed & I'll wack some pics up then ;)

Slow progress but I can't do anything about it really as I'm @ the mercy of workshop & OS supplier A moment.

Won't be until I have the manifold & stand alone ECU that things can really hot up. Although, once I have the LPG gear here, progress will @ least start to happen on the intake side of things.

I can't really bother with IC & piping until both intake & exhaust sides are fitted out. Obviously due to measurements/accuracy. But I know the IC I will be getting. It'll be have about a 3rd more flow capacity than the one originally on car & sit practically in the same possy :cool: I just hope it's a good quality one as it's off EBay but seems OK......

Thought I'd make one last effort to see if I could 'liquid inject' the LPG & piss the GR mixer set up off......:D:D:D.......what put me off before was I was told you had to have EFI. What they failed to grasp was that I have a custom management system coming from OS ;)

I can but too expensive for my liking but.................

I can vapour inject, without petrol (dual fuel) yes, STRAIGHT GAS :eek: I have a the Aussie warehouse & recommended installer getting back to me to discuss the details of running my fancy stand alone with the Merc harness & what's what with injectors.

New ground but just imagine the performance/economy/reliability this means compared to the GR mixer?????? :cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

Thanks to nick.ged I have contacted flo-flex in the UK for info regarding poly bushes. They do the front LCA's & rear arm bushes only from what I can gather.

No reply after 3 days but this is all too typical of suppliers. Anyway, they have them I believe but I wanna know whether they are softer street hardness or race?

On a side note, I am trying to locate a top to bottom intercooler. I've researched these as being more efficient than the side tank IC's. Have found one that may fit in US & again, await a reply. They also stock all joiners & pipe sizes.

So we'll wait..............

Ok..........

Just in the process of making a decision on the poly bushes.

Although I can save a bundle with some of them by getting them from UK, they don't have all I want. Another supplier has offered me just about the entire bushing sets, including a set of RDMTek front camber plates & a set of rear adjustable camber arms @ a considerably higher cost but, this would be for the most part all I need to modify this slouch suspension for the power increase it will get!

So, how it stands is, I can either get the most part of the suspension bushings for alot cheaper or, suck up the extra cost to allow for the other poly parts & the extra stuff mentioned above?

Never an easy decision with these cars :(

Well......been putting the inevitable off for too long.........out to the garage to rip out whats left of the butchered engine harness including the makeshift ECU harness that's there.

The pics won't be pretty.........either will the language...........

Ok. Awaiting an invoice for front & rear wishbone poly bushes coming from UK haha & the intercooler.

Once I have the bushes I can get them pressed along with lower ball joints & also fit the 4-pot brake calipers & larger brake rotors I have.

As I will be relocating to Q'land (1800odd kms further north) early in the new year. Focus now is on getting the car off the blocks & rolling again for the long transport upwards. Oh, & the struts & coil springs dammit! Just gotta get them freighted a bit cheaper. Bloody expensive for these as they aren't offered both @ the same place

so now, waiting, waiting.......

Update

Intercooler was $185 delivered from here. Will be arriving this week. May modify it which will add fair bit to cost.....

Just paid for Poly Bushes from UK. Both front & rear LCA bushes delivered for $253AUS! That's excellent!!!

Invoice from US for Bilstein Struts delivered approx = $695AUS! That's between 2/3 & 1/2 what I would pay here! Once I have invoice I will pay.

So, not bad on a whole I guess? But, surely won't be doing this ever again!

OK. Just completed payment transaction for Bilsteins from US, $723AUS. AUS$ sux @ moment. So, now all the important suspension stuff is sorted!

Hopefully the IC will be here soon so I can @ least attempt the fitment for now. Obviously can't do pipework until exhaust parts are delivered.......

Happy now :cool:

Just returned from an aluminium welder I found just a tad over 10mins away from me. Top bloke who's modest & does good work for simple hrly rate. No bullsh1t!

I dropped off the IC for him to reposition the tank end pipes. He is also keen to do the IC piping once I get all the gear from OS to fit. He's keen to work with me bits & pieces @ a time.

Can do all types of welding & really proud of his work!

Feel better about my mission now :cool:

Just in process of sourcing certain parts OS....ie: tie rod link/ends; front ball joints; rear subrame mounts; diff mount/bushings; trans cooler; turbo cooling/oil lines, banjos etc, strut mounts, boots & bump stops, swaybar bushes (these are pretty straight forward though)

Couldn't wait the 3 month backorder from here for H&R sports lowered coil springs as this would set me back too much time & I'd basically have nothing to do til' I get turbo gear from Scandinavia (root that!) So, managed to source them from US for only $50 more than if I waited. These will be freighted via USPS priority mail (believe me you pay for this but far less chance of it getting lost in a slow-haul freight service & I need to get started with this car as I hope to get it @ least drivable by mid May next year ). Incidentally, US supplier I managed to find was only $50 cheaper than other suppliers so, another win

As it now stands, awaiting the following:

a) turbo header, detachable 3" dump pipe & external WG pipe, WG, BOV, cam
& crank trigger wheels & adapter plates to suit, VEMS ECU, wiring
harness to suit & all sensors etc coming from Estonia (across ocean from
Sweden )
b) IC refurbish from here
c) H&R coil springs from US
d) Bilstein struts from US
e) S500 150A alternator from US
f) Poly bushes from UK......so.....waiting

um..................liquid injection is only $500 more than vapour. I was given bullsh1t information from a-hole here where I live & also from another. Been like this for years too btw.....how do these nobs stay in business :confused:

Anyway, confirmed it all with installer who uses LPG warehouse gear (JTG installs), the "ants pants" of LPI :cool: "untuned" can expect about 15wkw more power than with petrol / "tuned" up to 30 :eek: economy near that of fuel & capable of higher CR's than fuel too :cool::cool::cool:

Fark there's alot to learn/know.......when I explained I am running aftermarket ECU & trigger wheels etc, he then confirmed it can be run via direct LPI, not duel-fuel bullsh1t!

Not much booking time necessary either! Only a week or two! I thought it would be months, so this is one huge plus.......

Again, until I get the turbo header & gear from OS, I can't do alot of the technical stuff. But when suspension & front-end gear turn up, @ least I can do the undercarriage.

sheesh! Tryin to stay up with this LPI stuff.......

The JTG system uses it's own injectors that come with the kits. This means I don't have to fork out for LS2 COP injectors or even run EFI @ all, due to dedicated LPI set up. Just wish I didn't need to use the pidly donut where my spare should be but apparently this has the necessary pump needed.

Anyway, spoke guy in charge this morn & he's keen to have the car as soon as I get it all together, up to fitting the VEMS ECU & harness, then shop takes over. Cart comes home on all fours :cool:

Found OEM suppliers in UK & US for all the tidly OEM suspension parts like, ball joints, idler arm bushings, Strut boots & bump stops, boot rubber, draglink & tie rod assemblies, expansion tank cap, thermostat & other tid bits......all the pita stuff including the rear flex plate (driveshaft donut) for 1/3rd cost it is here &....heavily discounted expedited freight on most so hopefully gets here round same time as the springs. Bilsteins arrived yesterday ;)

Very cool! Only hickup was one idiot supplier who didn't send 1 ball joint in order then, sends a used one as a replacement :eek:

I will take pics of all goodies later today.

Also, scored an S320 M104 fuel rail from US for a bargain :cool: It will come post new year.

Next, I just need the modded intercooler again, post new year now.
