Hi, I have a 2018 E400 that started doing something very peculiar a few months ago. The problem presents itself more often when it is very hot outside- over 100 degrees. While driving, the cluster will beep, and the power steering light will come on. In addition, power steering completely shuts off. The steering wheel becomes very heavy to turn- manageable at highway speeds, but brutal in a parking lot. Other codes follow if I continue driving the car long enough including Parking Assist, traction control and some others. The most bizarre part is that sometimes honking the horn returns the car back to perfect condition. I swear I’m not making this up. The car is just a little crazy.
I have suspected that the previous owner replaced the battery with the wrong one and this could be a voltage thing (and honking the horn creates enough of a draw to “shock” the battery back), but I’m looking for input from a pro in here as I could be completely wrong in my assumption. Do you know what common module could control the systems that are giving me codes and where it’s located in the car?
